Four Stars drop on Monday night, repercussions abound for four contending franchises

Three of the hottest teams in the NBA lost some key players last night. The Knicks who have been losing for most of the season also lost one their all stars. Former Knicks point guard Chauncey Billups will miss the rest of the season for the Clippers after an achilles injury. The Nuggets Danilo Gallinari, one of the men traded for Carmelo Anthony, will also miss significant time. And of course Melo will miss about a week or two after straining his groin while being sidelined for the Jeremy Lin show. But the most worrisome injury in the eyes of most fans is the one to reigning MVP Derrick Rose, who played just 11 minutes for the Bulls last night before being pulled with back spasms.

In this strike shortened NBA season many players have taken a game or two off due to fatigue. Dirk Nowitzki had a 4 game training stint mid season. It is no doubt that the short season is responsible for many of these injuries. Rose has had back issues for a good portion of the season. Although the injury has him said to be day to day, it could become much worse as the strenuous season continues. The Bulls have been a top team in the East all season and the loss of Rose could put a damper on their championship hopes.

That being said, the injury to Gallo will proof to be the hardest to overcome. The Nuggets have been on fire since dumping Carmelo Anthony last season and picking up the young Italian. Gallo has led the way for the Nuggets all season,  he has averaged 17 points per game while being a match up nightmare for opposing defense. On the bright side we will get to see Gallinari in his street clothes, as one of the best dressed guys in the NBA I’m sure some will get a kick out of seeing what he has planned.
